It was one of those days…I couldn’t get my mind off worrying about finances. The expenses were bigger than the paycheck, and I’m the one who writes the checks.
For weeks my heart had been heavy for so many who were struggling with financial stress. I constantly was praying for someone who was struggling to make ends meet. The college student, the family with a small business, the parents of a sick child, the single mom, the 90 yr old lady I met who didn’t even have $10 a month left after housing and medicine.
“Oh Lord, why do we all have to worry so much about money? Doesn’t everything belong to you…even the cattle on a thousand hills (Psalm 50:10)?” “I’m consumed by this worry…worry about money!” “How are we going to pay the bills?”
That very same morning, I walked the lane from our house to the mailbox. God had blessed us with rain just a few days earlier, after weeks of drought. And as I turned to go, there in the dryed caked mud…stuck a five dollar bill.
The $5 now hangs on my refrigerator…I won’t be spending it. As it’s a constant reminder from God that everything is His. He will take care of us. Worry about money is wasted worry. He is in control. And if you take a good look you’ll see his message….”In God We Trust”.
He’s been taking care of our every need, continually drawing us closer through our challenges.
