My Big Boy is pretty pleased with himself. This weekend he actually came up with his first “pick”. You’ve gotta understand, he follows me around at auctions, flea markets and wherever else I come up with my treasures, but he never buys. He leaves that up to me.
Usually he’s impressed with what I come up with, or at least, he’s excited that I’m excited…and occasionally he rolls his eyes (that “Lordy, what are you thinking woman!” look). So here’s his first pick, and I swear I’m not rolling my eyes (at least not while he’s looking).
This is what he calls a sledge. His story is that in the late 1800’s farmers would load it with wood and dogs would pull it in from the woods. Sounds feasible to me. We’ll see. His pick – 20 bucks.
I’m still thinking my pick is the best.
Isn’t it great? This mantel came from a Pennsylvania farmhouse that was built in 1875. I don’t know that it’s original to the house, but it is old. And here’s the best thing…I got it for free! The nicest couple gave it to me…just gave it to me! I bet you’re wondering where I’m going to put it in my 5th wheel? Me too. It will be making a trip back to Kansas and be ready for me when I move into a house again.
I don’t think I’d make much money picking. I find things I love, and want to keep forever. On the other hand my Big Boy has dreams of getting rich.
Does anyone want to buy and ugly red and green sledge? For twenty-one bucks, its yours!
Don’t want the sledge…but I love the fireplace mantle!
Darn where’s that “like” button again! Watch it, he’ll probably get rich off the sledge! LOL
Actually kinda liking that sledge! 🙂 Curious what part of PA your in? I went from KS to PA and back to KS. I’ve always thought the Lancaster area had some of the best auctions & markets. Happy junking!
We are in the Southwest corner. My Big Boy loves to take road trips in the 5th wheel, so we’ve been to the Gettysburg/Lancaster area. I loved it. Also love West Virginia…so beautiful.
Beautiful fireplace mantel. What an incredible blessing – I’m thinking the people were waiting for someone just like you to fall in love with it. Congratulations, and I hope it brings a smile to your face every time you see it. (Along with a reminder to pray for a generous couple in Pennsylvania…)
