I believe that I’m overdosing on cemeteries, death, and those gone before us, as I woke this morning from having a dream, having to be at a funeral in “Grape, KS”! Let me tell you, there is no “Grape, KS!” How did I come up with that? Nothing I ate yesterday involved grapes…I’m not craving grapes…but I have been doing a lot of “grave hopping” (as a good friend calls it)!
I do have to take back all the things I’ve said about my brother being obsessed with family history. For months I’ve been chuckling as my inbox would pop up “new content has been added to your Ancestory.com family tree” daily! I thought he (my brother) had gone over the deep end. Well, after much pleading and cajoling (on his part), I finally jumped in, and…it’s contagious!! https://49andcounting.wordpress.com/2011/08/12/im-so-excited
I’ll keep this one short, (as I’m sure you’ll be hearing about this in the future) but my Big Boy and I did make our trip to the “family cemetery” this weekend. High on a mountain top in beautiful Pennsylvania! Here’s a photo thanks to the new camera I had to stop and purchase on the way. https://49andcounting.wordpress.com/2011/08/03/its-always-best-to-be-truthful
I can’t begin to describe the sense of connection I felt standing on the spot where my ancestors stood in the early 1800’s. Looking over the land that they farmed and raised families on. I’m hooked. I’ve been on the computer the rest of the weekend, finding all sorts of new facts about family.
I’m so amazed that God would put me in this place and so thankful that He did.
In the meantime, I’ve got a lot more weed eating to do! Blessings to you and your family!
It certainly is contagious. I spent yesterday afternoon visiting my mother (87), and we looked at old photographs, the family bible and my grandparents birth certificates and wedding license.
Here’s my tidbit of advice…enjoy the moments “looking” together…but then run out and make copies of everything!! Some day you’ll wonder where they went…we are on the search for a family bible that no one seems to know where it is at.
Thanks for finding the old Elliott Cemetery – it’s more beautiful than I imagined. Don’t know why but feel that pictures don’t do it “justice”. Now we just have to figure out who all is buried there – in addition to those we presently know – out of respect to other living relatives that don’t know they have someone buried there. Thanks for doing this!
