“A friend hears the song in my heart and sings it to me when my memory fails.” –Anonymous
I believe my all time favorite movie has to be “Hope Floats”, because the first time I watched it, I connected with it. I was a single mom struggling through a heartbreaking divorce. Every choice I made directly influenced my children and their lives. I was lonely, sad, broken and wounded in spirit. My plan for life had just unraveled, and I was so disappointed in myself.
But the scene that I sobbed through, and still do to this day, is the scene where Birdie visited her father in the hospital room. And she danced with him. She touched the man that she loved most in her life, a man whose mind wasn’t in the moment, and she took him to a place he remembered. For a moment, all the love that she had for him, spilled over and soothed her brokeness.
Sometimes life catches us off guard and the pieces seem to fall apart. Sometimes the smallest things can enter our minds filling us with fear or dread. Sometimes we’re confused, angry, lost, heart sick and there seems no way out.
But this I promise you…God always has a song for you. The music is always playing. He will bring friends beside you to hold you up. He will bring family to encourage you. He will bring strangers to your path and reach you in ways unexpected.
Don’t ever give up on God. He is there, waiting to dance.
Wow, this is how God works. I borrowed this quote from a book I was reading written by Carol Kent called “When I Lay My Isaac Down”. (I recommend it to all.) After writing this blog post, I curled up in bed and read a little more before going to sleep, and what was on the next page of the book…she used “Hope Floats” as an example. I promise you, I had know idea when writing this post. That’s just how God works!
