Cooking Without Measurements i.e. Michaela’s Way…

My way of cooking has always been “a little of this, and a little of that”. That’s how I saw my Gaga do it, and I’m always for the easy way. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn’t. But this morning I made BBQ Sauce ‘to die for’, and didn’t measure a thing. Anyone want to cook the easy way….follow me…

(First off, a disclaimer. There are a thousand recipes to make BBQ Sauce with Coca Cola…I promise, I didn’t steal this from anyone, I didn’t read their recipes…this is just the “my way”.)

Mix in a pan on the stove.

1/2 bottle of ketchup (you know, the regular size)
2 caps full of liquid smoke (one just wasn’t enough, so I had to go back and add a little more)
a pinch of garlic powder
a big pinch of onion flakes (heck maybe even a half a hand full!)                                                a very small pinch of black pepper (This is optional…the only reason I put it in is that I know My Big Boy claims to hate pepper, and I love having one up on him.  He doesn’t even know it’s there…and well, I giggle!)
a nice big handful of brown sugar, and then maybe more                                                          the funnest….a smiley face or so of mustard squirted on the top.
and of course,  the magic ingredient….about 1/3 can of coke…maybe 1/2 can, if that’s what you like.  (Take the other 2/3 pour it on ice, and if it’s in the evening, I suggest filling the rest of the glass with Jack Daniels!!  That’s the other thing my Gaga taught me…a little snort doesn’t hurt now and then!) (Oh, but do not pour this in the pan on stove! At least not this time…kinda just gave myself an idea….will get back with you on that later!)
Stir, and simmer. Hmmmm….so good.

The deal is, you’ve gotta just keep tasting, but I promise you, you don’t need one measuring cup, or measuring spoon. You’ve just saved yourself a ton of dishes. And look what you’ve done…magic!

I’ve got it simmering now, over shredded pork from yesterdays roast.  My little 5th wheel is going to smell good all day.  Add some corn on the cob, maybe a little cut up fresh fruit.  Supper’s ready!  Ahhh, I call that “the easy way”!

About 49andcounting

Hi! I'm a mom, wife, grammy, sister, friend at that ALMOST 50 age!! (Okay, since I started this a few years ago...well, add a bit to 49andcounting!) How the heck did I get here so fast?!? I love, love, love- my girls, antiques, rural America, history, Jesus, junkin, the lake and my Big Boy...not particularly in that order. It's about time I change this profile a bit. After a year or living in our 5th wheel in beautiful Pennsylvania, My Big Boy and I are back to the Kansas Prairies. And there's just nothing like "Home Sweet Home". Hitting the Big 50 has its own unique, well...let's say...blessings :) So come along, laugh with me...cry with me...praise God with me...and let's do this 49andcounting thing, together!
