Did I miss the memo? When did swimwear prices go out the roof? I’m surfing the internet for a modest one piece…and yazooo…I see the price! $152!! $148!!! What happened to $29.99? I might even be able to go $49, but are you kidding me? I realize that with middle-age came needing a little more material to cover skin that I wouldn’t want seen, but what’s material cost, $30 a yd?
Some smart person out there is making a killing. Maybe it’s all that special material they use to tighten up, snug up, hold in my middle age spread…but it’s gonna cost me a fortune! Maybe it someone’s way of saying I shouldn’t be wearing a swimsuit at 50. One of the greatest things about being 49andcounting is the freedom to do what I want and wear what I want, and not be so darn influenced by what others might think!
So watch out world, you won’t be seeing my in a yellow poka dot bikini (thank your lucky stars), but after I get over the sticker shock I might just pull off a black & white zebra print once-piece!
I went shopping yesterday and the prices are insane! I went to Penney’s, which thankfully was having a big sale, but even at sale price and with a $10 off coupon applied, it was STILL too much. I chose a two piece set and ended up paying about $35 for the top and $35 for the bottom. The designers/manufacturers/retailers play upon our anxiety over swimwear. They know that if an average female finds something that they think they look good in at the pool or on the beach, money will be no object. Same with jeans, I think…
