I love Fiestaware. Maybe it’s the variety of bright colors, maybe it’s the memory of mom’s Hershey fudge always being spread in a turquoise Fiesta platter, maybe it’s my love of tradition and connection. Sixty years ago my grandparents sold Fiestaware in their hardware.
My memories as a little girl include the table set with green and turquoise Fiestaware. So yesterday when my big Boy and I made a trip to Newell, WV to the Homer Laughlin Factory (home of Fiestaware), I was in heaven.
They still produce it today, the colors are still bright, and wonderful to mix and match. It’s now dishwasher and microwave safe, and yesterday was my day. I’ve always wanted Fiestaware, and yesterday I found the 2nd’s room! Yippee. It was so much fun, digging through hundreds and hundreds of dishes and plates, serving bowls, and salt shakers. (and the 2nd’s are deeply discounted). I came home with Peacock Blue and Scarlet Red dishes, and am so excited to keep adding to my collection.
If you get a chance, you need to visit. They even have a Fiesta Museum, and give tours of the factory (which has its own charm, as it looks like it has been there for all of the 135 years HL has been in business!). If you’re a Fiesta lover, you won’t want to miss it.
