My oldest sister exposed me to an experience today that I’ve never had the pleasure of enjoying before, and if I’m in my right mind, may never want to enjoy again! A day with her four grandsons, ages 5 and under.
It’s New Years Eve, and where do parents want to go? Out! And who’s the best babysitter in the world? Grammy! And who’s the lucky sister who’s visiting for the weekend? Me!
You need to know, I raised girls. I know nothing about boys. Haven’t been exposed. But today, I have officially been exposed!
Fun day with lots of Legos, and Batman, and Playdough. Tinker toys and building blocks. No Barbies or Pretty Ponies. No Strawberry Shortcake or Disney Princesses. It was a new world for me. Fun to watch. And then my sister says, “I think we’ll take the boys to McDonalds for dinner.” “What? Are you kidding?” Four boys, four coats, four car seats, four happy meals, four chocolate milks! It was crazy. Who has enough hands for this? Or patience? And then she says, “Who wants ice cream cones?” Has she lost her mind! Now we have four cones, four napkins, four sets of sticky hands. “Is it bedtime yet?”
After today, I know why God created young women to have the babies, and old women to babysit occasionally. This “Grammy Gig” wears a girl out!
By the way, the cutest moment of the day was when I was buckling 3 yr old Sam in his car seat and he said, “You are very old.” He gets it, and he doesn’t even read my blog! Out of the mouths of babes!
Wishing you all a Happy and Blessed New Year.
