Ahhh, yesterday was great! Although I’ve moved approximately 948 miles away from my best friends (that’s 1526 km…which sounds even farther away for my lonely heart). Yesterday was filled with ‘phone time’. I’m talking, ‘giggle til your hand goes numb’ phone time! I’d have to say I just hit the right day, because by the time the day was over I had warmed the phone lines with 3 girlfriend conversations, 2 children calls, and one sister! (Sounds like I’ve got a lot of very important stuff to talk about, of course.)
The morning started with a quick call to one of my besties. She’s 93. And so wise, and encouraging, and wise, and loving, and wise, and faithful. And, did I say wise? Every conversation with her brings me joy and thankfulness for our friendship, and all that she’s taught me.
Then there was the long time college friend (many moons ago). We always talk like we just saw each other yesterday, when really we may only talk two or three times a year. (that conversation went on for 1 hr and 32 minutes…and we still weren’t done) Don’t you just love the friend who knows and accepts you for where you’ve been and where you are now, and where you are going? Lifetime friends.
And I wasn’t finished. Cuz the phone rang, and it was my best buddy. The one that it hurt the most to leave (even at 49), the one who I can whisper things I would absolutely never tell anyone else, and would never type on a blog (like-you should see what I saw in the mirror this morning while naked!) Oops, I told! Well, stuff like that. And we laughed, and we growled, and we encouraged for 1 hr and 31 min! (and we still weren’t done, but my hand was numb).
If I was a computer techy I’d insert a music video of “Friends are Friends Forever”, but I’m not. So just hum to yourself right here. Guess the point of this all is that “don’t we all just need some girlfriend time?” and “I am so thankful for all the girlfriends God has placed in my life”. You know who you are. And, if you need one, comment or email me. I’d like to be yours!
As I was reading this and you describing your friends…..the first thing that came to my mind was baking Christmas cookies!! I have never had “a friend” over to make Christmas cookies with me. A friend of mine who lives by Kansas City and her friend bake dozens of different kinds of cookies every year. My very best friends live miles away and are too busy for me. No, this is not a pity party, that’s just the way it is. Next year, I will make better plans for this and do it! I think it would be more cool with three or four friends, but I don’t have that many close friends.
