“I’m Just Not Doing It…”

Thinking I’ve had a little life lesson this weekend. With age comes change, and some we need to accept rather than fight.
My mother and I have had a few strong, encouraging words this weekend as I tried to convince her that she must start using her cane. In her late 70’s, she has some mobility issues, and it is time for her to use the cane to prevent any falls. All makes sense, but..she doesn’t want to use the cane! I believe in her books, cane=old. I explained, and nagged, and finally said, “mother, you are so stubborn”.
Then it hit me. I have poor hearing. Worse than most my age. I’ve seen it coming, getting worse the past few years. (put it this way, I like to watch movies with the words at the bottom of the screen) And anytime someone mentions a possible hearing aid, I cringe and reply “I’m just not doing it”. To me, hearing aid=old age.
And after thinking this all through, somewhere in the recesses of my mind I hear, “Oh, give me that damn cane!”

About 49andcounting

Hi! I'm a mom, wife, grammy, sister, friend at that ALMOST 50 age!! (Okay, since I started this a few years ago...well, add a bit to 49andcounting!) How the heck did I get here so fast?!? I love, love, love- my girls, antiques, rural America, history, Jesus, junkin, the lake and my Big Boy...not particularly in that order. It's about time I change this profile a bit. After a year or living in our 5th wheel in beautiful Pennsylvania, My Big Boy and I are back to the Kansas Prairies. And there's just nothing like "Home Sweet Home". Hitting the Big 50 has its own unique, well...let's say...blessings :) So come along, laugh with me...cry with me...praise God with me...and let's do this 49andcounting thing, together!
