Whatever You Do….”don’t ask Ruby”!

When I was a kid (we’re talking 40 yrs ago here) Ruby was a small town character I won’t forget. Ruby had kind of a tough look to her, although she always wore a body fitting dress, bright red lipstick, shiny red high heels…and NO pantyhose! (As a child of the 60’s, that ‘no pantyhose’ thing just grossed me out!) She must have had some sort of ‘fashion sense’, as she always wore a dress and heels. But the total package….well, suffice it to say, she carried her own look.  What I remember the most about Ruby is, ‘don’t ever ask Ruby how she is or you’ll never get away from her’.  Every ache and pain she had would be described in detail. Can you believe I remember that 40 yrs later!! What’s scaring me is..as I complain about my aching back, my horrible eyesight, or that fact that my hearing has gone South (all little surprises that have come with age)- I’m beginning to wake up in the morning thinking….Am I Ruby?? Ahhhh, noooooo. I’m running out right now to buy a new shade of lipstick!

About 49andcounting

Hi! I'm a mom, wife, grammy, sister, friend at that ALMOST 50 age!! (Okay, since I started this a few years ago...well, add a bit to 49andcounting!) How the heck did I get here so fast?!? I love, love, love- my girls, antiques, rural America, history, Jesus, junkin, the lake and my Big Boy...not particularly in that order. It's about time I change this profile a bit. After a year or living in our 5th wheel in beautiful Pennsylvania, My Big Boy and I are back to the Kansas Prairies. And there's just nothing like "Home Sweet Home". Hitting the Big 50 has its own unique, well...let's say...blessings :) So come along, laugh with me...cry with me...praise God with me...and let's do this 49andcounting thing, together!
